Keybinds

One layout per spec, built around the Single-Button Assistant on 1. It handles the rotation but never presses your big cooldowns, interrupts, crowd control, defensives or movement, so those fill 2–6 and Shift+1–6. Every spec uses the same slot roles, so your fingers don't need to relearn anything when you swap characters.

Content

Slot roles

1 Single-Button Assistant
2 Main burst cooldown
3 Interrupt
4 Backup interrupt or stun
5 Stun or AoE crowd control
6 Movement or second burst
S1 Main defensive
S2 Second defensive
S3 Self-heal
S4 Utility (freedom or CC)
S5 Utility (dispel or mobility)
S6 Emergency or raid cooldown

Unshifted keys are things you react to: kicks, stuns and burst. Shift keys are things you plan: defensives and utility. Hitting Shift by mistake in a panic costs you less than missing a kick.

How these macros work

  • #showtooltip makes the button show the spell's icon, cooldown and tooltip, so you can pick the question-mark icon.
  • [@mouseover,help,nodead] casts on the friendly player under your cursor, whether that's a raid frame or their character.
  • [@mouseover,harm,nodead] does the same for an enemy, so you can kick or stun a caster and keep your target.
  • Conditions are checked left to right, and the first one that matches wins. The empty [] means "otherwise, use my target".
  • [@player] at the end is the safe default for dispels and heals: no mouseover and no friendly target means it hits you.
  • To make one, type /macro, click New, and use the character tab so each character keeps its own. Name it, choose the question-mark icon, paste, and drag it onto the key.
  • Mythic+ kick assignments: swap @mouseover for @focus to always kick your focus target. Set it with /focus.
  • /use 13 is your top trinket slot and /use 14 the bottom one. Put a combat potion on its own key, since you don't want it every time you burst.
  • WoW also has a built-in mouseover cast option, but players report it's inconsistent in Midnight. Macros always work.

Setting it up in game

  1. Open the Spellbook, go to the General tab, and drag Single-Button Assistant to slot 1 of Action Bar 1.
  2. Options → Gameplay → Action Bars: turn on Action Bar 2.
  3. Options → Keybindings → Action Bars: bind Action Bar 2 (the bar called Bottom Left on older clients) buttons 1–6 to Shift+1 through Shift+6.
  4. By default Shift+1–6 switch action bar pages. Rebinding them as above removes that. Say yes when WoW asks to replace the old binding.
  5. Hover the Single-Button Assistant in your spellbook. Its tooltip lists every spell it casts for your talents, so you can drop any of those from your bars.

Good to know

  • The Single-Button Assistant adds a small global cooldown penalty. It's great for learning fights, but the damage loss shows in high keys and on Heroic progression.
  • When you're ready, try Assisted Highlight from the combat options. It highlights the next button to press with no penalty, and this same layout still works with it.
  • Put trinkets and potions in a macro on your burst key (2) so they always line up. SBA never uses items.
